Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps West Chester

WEST CHESTER-- The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a doubleheader against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival West Chester on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies took game one 2-1 and won the second game 2-0.

In game one, the Huskies found themselves trailing 1-0 after West Chester's Stefani Kerbacher lead off the bottom of the first inning with basehit. A single advanced Kerbacher to second where she later scored from on a single from Megan Harbaugh.

Bloomsburg did its damage in the top of the sixth inning. Trailing 1-0 with one out, Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) singled. The next batter up, Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland), blasted a two-run homerun to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

West Chester was held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth and left a runner on in the seventh to seal the 2-1 win for Bloomsburg.

Fresh off of a no-hitter against Mansfield, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) pitched seven innings scattering seven hits allowing one run while striking out 10.

In game two, the Huskies got runs in the top of the third and the fourth innings to provide the only scoring of the game. Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) singled the third and later scored on a West Chester error. In the fourth, Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) hit a solo homerun to give the Huskies an insurance run.

Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) had a dominating game two performance, allowing only four hits in the shut-out win while striking out eight batters.

With the sweep, Bloomsburg improves to 25-10 and 11-5 in the PSAC East. The Huskies are back in action tomorrow when they host East Stroudsburg at 1:00 p.m.
